Frequently asked questions
What trowel notch size should I use for vinyl plank flooring?
For most glue-down luxury vinyl plank (LVP), manufacturers recommend a 1/16" x 1/16" x 1/16" square-notch trowel, which covers roughly 165 sq ft per gallon. Always confirm the notch size on your adhesive’s product data sheet.
Can I reuse flooring adhesive after opening the pail?
No. Once opened, adhesive begins to skin over and cure. Reseal the pail tightly and use it within the manufacturer’s stated open time. Never pour leftover or used adhesive back into the pail.
Does the subfloor affect adhesive coverage?
Yes. Porous or rough subfloors such as concrete or OSB absorb more adhesive than smooth surfaces, which lowers coverage per gallon. The waste allowance in this calculator covers typical variation, but always check the product data sheet.
